SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 24

Caldwell, Burnette, Boley, Deem, Facemyer, Minear, Sprouse,
Bowman, Unger and Tomblin, Mr. President)
Recognizing the achievements of Dr. Ancella Radford Bickley and Dr.
Lynda Ann Ewen.

Whereas, Dr. Ancella Radford Bickley and Dr. Lynda Ann Ewen of
Huntington have enduring interests in West Virginia's black history
which have led them to become involved with projects relating to
research and preservation of materials related to black history in
West Virginia; and

Whereas, Dr. Ancella Radford Bickley has written numerous
publications relating to black history, including Our Mount
Vernons, which deals with West Virginia sites on the National
Register of Historic Places relative to black history; In Spite of
Obstacles: A History of the West Virginia Schools for the Colored
Deaf and Blind, 1926-1955; and Memphis Tennessee Garrison: The
Remarkable Story of A Black Appalachian Woman, which she coedited
with Dr. Ewen; and

Whereas, Dr. Lynda Ann Ewen has also written numerous
publications, including Social Stratification and Social Power in America; The View Below; Which Side Are You On?; The Brookside Mine
Strike; and Urban Crisis and Corporate Power; and

Whereas, In celebration of Black History Month, it is fitting
to recognize the achievements of Dr. Ancella Radford Bickley and
Dr. Lynda Ann Ewen who are dedicated to the preservation of black
history; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate:

That the Senate hereby recognizes the achievements of Dr.
Ancella Radford Bickley and Dr. Lynda Ann Ewen and their devotion
to the preservation of black history in West Virginia; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward
a copy of this resolution to Dr. Ancella Radford Bickley and Dr.
Lynda Ann Ewen.
